Girls on the Run

History

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. The program teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games.

The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5km running event. The core curriculum of Girls on the Run addresses many aspects of girls' development.

This includes their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. The same is true for Alpha Sigma Alpha as it relates to women.

With common goals, values and a commitment to developing girls and women, the partnership between Alpha Sigma Alpha and Girls on the Run is a perfect match.

Our Participation

UMBC Alpha Sigs participate in GOTR by volunteering their time before and during the race. We run with the girls and help them train as Running Buddies.

We also work as Course Marshalls during the race, directing runners on their path and cheering them on.
